During the recent Jan 2010 election of Rebublican Scott Brown to the Massachusetts senate, it came out (to coin a phrase) that during his law school days he had posed for Cosmopolitan magazine — naked! This week Cosmo unearthed Brown’s photos from their 1982 issue and even offered their own slogans for his senate campaign:
“Who Needs Joe Plumber When You Can Have Scott Six-Pack?”
“Scott Brown: A Name You Can Trust, Abs You Can Believe In!”
“Scott Brown: Now That’s One Hell of a Stimulus Package!” (my personal favorite)
Cosmo editor in chief Kate White said: “Here at Cosmo we’ve had bachelors go on to be actors, models, and reality show stars, so we’re thrilled that one has gone on to become a politician.”
Let’s see, in the 1980′s his bikini clad wife appeared in a semi-racey music video and he posed nude in Cosmo. His daughter recently appeared on American Idol and Fox news is calling him a celebrity. I guess it is ok to be a celebrity as long as you are NOT Obama and as long as you belong to the GOP and have the same “family values.”
Don’t get me wrong, we all do stupid or crazy things in our youth. Scott Brown was in law school and quite a hunk. I am sure posing nude is an easier way to pay for college than working at McDonalds. It is not big deal if his wife was in music video and not an issue what his daughters do or if they went on American Idol. (although auctioning off his daughters in his acceptance speech was really tacky) What I DO have a problem with is the double standard the far right seems to have. It’s all about the morals or the family values but it seems to apply only to others. Taking the moral high ground is not required if you are a Republican politician, pastor, Miss American contestant, or other “celebrity. ” When a liberal or Democrat strays off the path or a past act of stupidity pops up…..Fox News and all of the other hate mongers jump all over it like “white on rice” demanding that they resign because of “a lack of principles.”
On the other hand, if one of their “chosen” sheep stray from the fold and either do something completely immoral……or…….if their past comes back to haunt them……it is either ignored, pushed aside as human error, or forgiven. In the case of Scott brown though…..it seems as though the GOP is so desparate for a leader they aren’t even curious as to who this guy is or are willing to show a little caution and wait to back him completely….he is “one of them” and that’s enough.
Perhaps if he ever DOES make it all the way to the White House, the official portrait will be WAY more interesting if he is posing in the Oval Office naked. Perhaps we could spice up the White House Tour with him or his wife doing a sexy scene together with his daughter singing in the background? This could be a whole new source of revenue for Washington.
Seriously folks, I am always happy to see things shaken up in Washington. I am tire of politicians voting right down party lines and not listening to their constituants. You would think though, that rather than squealing like girls at a Beatle’s concert, that Fox News and the rest of the far Right, would at least take this guy on a date first before they all jump into bed with him.
Come to think of it, he does look pretty hot and maybe that’s all it takes.
