Well, once again Congress had an emergency session on the Bush tax cuts and extending unemployment benefits and as usual, they were too busy playing “keep away” with each other refusing to give an inch and let the other have the ball. The spin for each party is loud and clear “if you don’t do this our way we are doomed and the entire country will collapse.” It amazing how many “experts” on both sides validates that party agenda as the “ONLY” correct direction to go. Meanwhile, those of us who want real answers are growing weary and tired of being bombarded daily by each side while we look for some constraint and real answers that no one seems to have. Constraint and a common sense moderate approach though, is NOT what either party proposes and each side of the cable commentary advertising war has chosen sides and those of us right or left of center……have few voices out there that represent us. I guess it’s hard to rally others with “Hey, come over here…..we like some of the ideas that each party offers and want us to work together!” THAT is not a slogan that ends up on a rally sign is it?
Obama ran as a somewhat moderate Democrat promising hope and change. Unfortunately what we received was the same old thing we had voted against. As soon as he was elected he moved further to the left than most of us were prepared for and not far enough to the left for others to keep some of the promises he made. The Republicans do the same damn thing, once they have won….game over they switch personalities and forget about We the People, then lie their way to make decisions we did not bargain for. Like a man who is courting a woman……there are roses, diamonds, and flowery promises and once he succeeds in bedding her……the roses stop coming, and promises remain unfulfilled and now she feels like a cheap whore who was duped and is now trapped with an abusive narcissistic man she doesn’t really know.
This is how I feel, and how many of us feel right now with the current administration and the preceding one. Once in office, what is good for the nation is set aside for what is good for the agenda and the party. With the Republicans and George Bush, we had promises of prosperity and a safer world to live in and what we received was a pack full of lies, military action that actually made the world LESS safe and an economy on the brink of collapse. With the Obama administration, we had promises of a smarter better way of doing things and a government willing to work together to get things done…….and we received a president who caved when the going got tough and who seemed to completely disconnect from the very people he made promises to….us. Not that he had help from the conservatives because they completely disregarded anything we sent them to do and stomped their foot, folded their arms, refused to play and they took their toys and went home unless everyone played THEIR game.
I am the first to admit that Obama had a tough row to hoe when he stepped in. BUT, like a horse with blinders on it seemed that he could only more forward, refusing to look left or right (or even tell us the direction we were going) and if he did look…..he refused to acknowledge the people on Main Street who were desperately pulling on the reins.
In the mean time, while Obama was living in a bubble, the discord in the country allowed the far right conservatives on the fringe to grab the reins out of our hands and attempt to steer us in a completely different direction than most of wanted to go. I am a somewhat of a conservative fiscally and a liberal on social issues. I believe we need to evolve and move forward past petty religious laws and bias and accept that this IS a changing world and we need to change with it. As one of many who want to have a say on where we go as a nation, I resent the hell out of the fact that both parties have been hijacked by fringe movements and that many of us have no choice but to be dragged along for the ride.
Now, we are moving to into 2011 and a presidential election coming in 2012 (which has already started) and I am seriously wondering what religious fanatic and wacko will end up as the next president. So, here is my timeline for the coming nightmare:
2011
• Obama keeps bending over so that the conservatives can keep “having their way with him” instead of doing what we elected him to do which is to be engaged with the people and help put into place effective and positive change.
• He tried moving more to the left than most of the country was ready to go……so….he loses more and more support from his base. The youth voters who rallied behind him get bored and go back to their video games while the rest of his supporters move to Canada or Norway or just give up trying.
• Meanwhile…..more and more conservatives in a rapture induced frenzy, which has left them completely ignorant of the real world around them. Sarah Palin decides to run for president with perhaps Mike Huckabee as her VP running mate. Their platform is to to overhaul the government and base everything on the literal teachings in the Biblical.
2012
• Obama keeps making nice speeches but does nothing and in 2012 Palin becomes the 1st woman President of the United States. Mama Grizzly is now the leader of the free world and moves her entire family into the Whitehouse including Levi Johnson who has finally married Bristol.
2013
• Sarah Palin chooses to be inaugurated in Wasilla, Alaska with the rest of her clan and then shoots a moose for the inaugural dinner.
• She appoints Levi Johnson as her Chief of Staff and her husband Todd as Secretary of Transportation and Snowmobiling.
• Huchabee, with the help of Sean Hannity and Glenn beck, rally the religious fundamentalists who pressure their politicians into doing exactly what Huckabee said he wanted to do the last time he ran for president…..change the Constitution so that it “reflects more Biblical principles.”
• All schools are required to teach from the Bible and MUST teach Creationism or Intelligent Design. All references to Charles Darwin are removed from the history books by Christian history revisionists.
• Abortion along with birth control is banned and women need to get permission from a male family member in order to even visit their OBGYN.
2014
• Scientists under penalty of death by stoning are forced to leave the country or denounce everything they know and believe about the laws of nature and physics.
• Not only are Gays completely banned from the military…..all Gay children are banned from public schools. Any who WANT to attend public school are forced to attend Jesus Camps until they can be reprogrammed. Gay adult couples not only cannot marry they have to break up and marry someone of the opposite sex. All children and teens that cannot be reprogrammed will be sent to live in Christian Militia run FEMA Jesus Camps (along with all illegal aliens and Muslim Americans) for “enhanced Bible study.”
• Palin has appointed former President George Bush as Czar of the Energy Commission and all regulations and restrictions regarding pollution are removed because: “God promised Noah in the Bible that he would never flood the earth again. God has a plan to destroy during End Times and Armageddon and the official government position will be to NOT mess with God’s plan.” He knows what’s best.
2015
• Atheists, Humanists, scientists, and all others who are tired of living in a policed Church State along with those who are NOT waiting for the Rapture, form their own nationwide uprising called “Rational Americans for Sanity.” They secretly fight against the Palin theocracy by forming a grassroots campaign to save America.
• The Arab nations, parents of illegal immigrant children held prisoner in FEMA Camps, and expat Muslim Americans who were forced to flee Mama Grizzly and her religious army…..form a coalition with the rest of the “free” world to liberate America from the Palin religious fundamentalist regime.
2016
• During the Great War of 2016 the freedom fighters of the “Rational Americans for Sanity” along with the coalition of nations helping our cause, liberate all of the gay, Mexican, and Muslims from the FEMA Jesus Camps and we take back our country.
Ok so, perhaps I am exaggerating a little but……having my country run by Sarah Palin is just too scary to get out of my head and it’s giving me nightmares.
